Business Insider has just reported that according to an analyst at Avian Securities, iPhone 5 production will start only in September.According to the analyst, iPhone 5 won’t be available until the end of this year or even early next year. He also claims that Apple is developing a cheaper iPhone. The analyst has published the report based on information from key component suppliers. He writes:Supporting out comments over the last month, conversations with yet another key component supplier indicates that production for iPhone-5 will begin in September. This is consistent with Avian findings in the supply chain in recent months and we believe the consensus view is moving towards this scenario. In addition, our conversations also indicate the existence of a lower-spec/lower-priced iPhone in Apple's roadmap. However, while our contacts have seen the placeholder in the Apple roadmap, they do not yet have insight into specs or production timing. This leads us to believe that any launch is likely a very late 2011 or more likely a 2012 event. As a reminder, Avian has uncovered several data-points in recent months pointing to the existence of a lower-spec/lower-price iPhone. A lower-spec/lower-price iPhone has also been speculated in the press and gadget blogs, though we do not believe consensus currently discounts the existence of such a model.This is not the first time we’ve heard about Apple’s plan to launch a cheaper iPhone. We’ve have heard several rumors and speculations that Apple will launch a cheaper and smaller iPhone, popularly dubbed as iPhone nano.Couple of days back, analyst Brian White of Ticonderoga Securities said that Apple could still launch iPhone 5 in June or July based on the “pattern of activity in motion with the supply chain”.We find it difficult to believe that Apple will delay the launch of iPhone 5 until the end of the year as Apple typically unveils the next generation at the WWDC Keynote address in June.But since Apple seems to have delayed the launch of iOS 5 to fall this year it is possible that Apple may not launch iPhone 5 this summer.What do you think? DrunkMunki said... If Apple wants people to take up the new iPhone 5 it needs to release the iOS5 BEFORE is announces the phone so developers can update their apps.
IF Apple delays past September they risk loosing people who’s plans expire end of year, if they delay it to christmas the sales of the iPhone would be hindered by the christmas crowds.
Also you need to take into account the manufacture of the iPhone and shipping them from china (3months at best) AND the issues with japans manufacturing components (japan makes 80-90% of a silicon glue used in all electronics)
I would bet $5 on them announcing it in june/july, avail in september
